Online Education: Perfect Fit Between Work and Study Schedule

Sometimes for one to further their current career they may need to go back to school to do so. But how are you going to be able to fit in both a work schedule and school schedule without conflicts. Well there is now the online and sometimes referred to as distance education. Online education allows students to take their courses via internet, with them having to do the reading themselves but afterwards watch lectures relating to their readings online. Is this online education really for everyone? There are its pros and cons when it comes to online education. But it is important to that online education is not suitable for all who wants to take them.

The pro that online education provides unlike traditional education is the flexibility. Your online classes can be attended at any time as most online educations record the lecture for online students to watch at their own discretion. This means if you were working full-time you can still attend your classes after work, when normally the classes would be during the day. Also you will never waste time and money, because you no longer have to commute to the campus to attend the classes, especially classes that only last for an hour. Most people do not live near their campus and sometimes could be as far as a couple of hours driving just to get there.

Online education allows you to continue to work while you go to school. Since most of the time work and school do become a conflict for anyone that has to handle both. And one of them will have to give; usually work suffers as you will be forced to work limited hours. But with online education you will not have to struggle trying to fit your classes around your work schedule and vice versa. This is the definite advantage that makes online education very attractive to potential students that wants to go back to school. On top of that advantage is the fact that online education programs tuition are often lower than the traditional campus ones. Not only will you be earning money while going to school you will also save a lot more with the lower tuitions.

Online education may also be advantageous to those who prefer to watch lectures and study alone instead of a class environment may find online education very attractive. As there will be little distraction at home compared to going to a live session. And many may find that traveling all the way to campuses to attend lectures does not give them additional help. Online education has also allowed students with physical disabilities to attend lectures and earn their degrees with out having to travel to or live at campuses to attend lectures. Also for anyone who may feel intimidated by large live lectures may also find online education rather better suited to their learning style.

The biggest con online education brings is that it is relatively a new to the public. With it being relatively new brings lack of experience in understanding how to teach a class via internet. As most traditional professors do not have to teach classes via online is now finding it is rather hard to make the transitions from the lecture hall to the internet. And most professors do not know these themselves, so in the end the only people that end up suffering from this problem are the students. As some professors are not computer savvy enough to provide some students with additional help that they usually provide in a traditional class. Which is one of the biggest blocks in online education is the lack of interaction between the student and the professor, but more and more online professors are beginning to provide online feedback via forums setup just for the courses.

There are lots of neat and interesting materials that can be included in online education. But the problem is in order to have access into these materials students much have certain computer hardware to support the given materials. This could be very expensive depending on what is needed. It is also very obvious that to take online courses you will need access to the internet. And most courses will require high-speed internet connection or anything that is equivalent or even faster to be able to view the courses or if the course allows instant interaction between students and the professors. One thing online education is not capable of doing currently is allow students to interact with one another or even with the professor like traditional classes.
