California Car Seat Law: For California Residents

If you live in California, and you have children, you should check out the California car seat law to make sure that you are abiding by them. California like all states, puts the car seat laws in place so that parents and guardians have laws to follow to keep their children safe while in vehicles. Following the car seat laws in your state will help you to make sure that your children are safe while in the car, as well as help keep you from getting fined by not following the law.

If you live in California and do not follow the California car seat laws, you are putting yourself and your children at risk. When you are caught so many times by the California police department for not obeying the car seat laws, you may be reported for child neglect. Neglecting your child is a serious offense in every state, and one that should not be taking lightly. Always be sure that your children are as safe as possible while riding in a vehicle.

The California car seat law states that you can not let your child ride in the front seat of a vehicle in their car seat unless the back seat is already full of children that are car seats. There are also other specifications that allow your child to ride in the front seat in their car seat as well. For instance, if there is no back seat to the vehicle, you could strap your child into the car seat on the front seat.

The California car seat law also states that you should be sure that your child's car seat is facing the correct direction while strapped into the vehicle. Doing this will ensure that your child has a safe ride, while you are abiding the car seat laws of California at the same time.

Most states have their own car seat laws, however, California car seat laws also state that your child can not ride in the front seat out of a car seat until your child is 12 years of age. There are other states that require your child to be 13 years of age before riding in the front seat without a car seat. This is to ensure that your child in the front seat would be able to withstand the impact of the air bag, in the event of an accident.

Whatever state you live in, you should check out the car seat laws for your state. Make sure that you are following them to a T, and keep your children as safe as possible while you are driving down the road.
